Why I love Sequim number 48263940

I am good at loosing stuff. Ever since I wad a kid, I have left behind wallets and phones and keys, all over. Tonight, I came home and realized my number one favorite thing in the world, my kindle, was gone. Called Las Palomas, the restaurant where we went for happy hour and they had it! Picking it up tomorrow and all is good in the world. I love this town.

Booo IKEA

As a Swede living in the US IKEA used to be my life saver. Whenever I felt home sick, I could go there and pick up my favorite Swedish foods and candies. It is the main reason for why I go there. So when I stopped by today (a two-hour drive one way, so not really stopping by at all) they only had this crap! What the h**** IKEA? If you are going to replace the name brands with your own generic stuff, could you at least make sure to feature everything, like the potato chips and the nappar and the bilar? So disappointed.

Today's Costco find!

I am slightly obsessed with air fresheners and other scent stuff, so this wax warmer got to come home with me today! Bamboo white tea, vanilla almond, mandarin cranberry and pomegranate cider... Mm!

Raspberry+blueberry jam

Got a canner and started experimenting with different combinations.

Lake Crescent

More canning!

I love this! Picked up 20 lb of tomatoes at Sunny Farms and boiled it to a sauce with all my fresh herbs. 3 or so galleons of fresh goodness!

Jammin' it up!

Crossing off yet another thing from my list! Made some blackberry jam yesterday. I have no idea what it tastes like, but I like to look at it. Only broke two jars! Success.

Building things

One of the things I really wanted to do with my time here is learn how to make things. To create things. Some of these projects have worked out better than others. For example, the pond I built was really pretty until Bo the dog decided to swim in it, and broke the liner. This latest thing I made was inspired by my friend Emilia Oije's blog (you can check it out at www.oije.se, she is an amazing photographer). About a year ago she posted this picture of a bath tub shelf made out of solid wood:
It looked amazing, and being an avid bather I just wanted it so badly. But it cost a thousand bucks so I just forgot about it. The other day I was walking around out in the yard and realized that those pieces of wood that Jon got for free from work actually kind of looked like it. So I decided to buy some kind of tool that would help me make it, walked into Home Depot and asked around. Quite literally - I just found a guy, told him what I had (a plank of wood) and asked what I needed to do to it. He was very helpful and it worked out really well! I just have to find some better "stoppers" to put underneath, then it will be all done. It works the way it is right now, too, but stoppers would be good.

1. The untreated wood

2. Sandpapered the whole thing, starting with 80, finishing with 220. Added some temporary stoppers with the only thing I had available at home...

3: Fits well in the oversized tub.
4. And holds ALL my stuff!
