Some people SUCK
Alright, I gotta rant a little bit:
Dog shows up on woman's doorstep w nine puppies. She only seems to want to care for three of them. The rest are given away to various colleagues to be bottle fed, just so that they can make it. Two of them can't find homes, and are given to us.
Two weeks later, we get asked if we can care for the entire litter, including mummy who seems to be producing a lot of milk. After thinking about it, we say yes and six of the puppies are given a new home in our mud room. The bottle fed puppies weigh less than half of the siblings who have been with their mom, but they are slowly catching up and having a great time playing with each other.
However, three of the puppies are STILL with the co-workers, who refuse to give them up because they are "their" dogs now. Despite ALL the evidence pointing to how important it is for puppies to be with their siblings and their mom at this point in their lives. Because of their selfish, ignorant behaviour, they are going to end up with three dogs that are more likely to have problems with aggression and socialization.
In four weeks, they could get them back as healthier, happier pupps, but they are just too damn stupid to realize it.
Am I crazy, or is that just really unaccaptable behaviour?

Will 2 become 7?
Got an email today about the puppy situation. As you all know, we are taking care of two of a litter of 9, and the rest are spread out with other foster families who can bottle feed them every three hours. But today we got asked to take care of seven puppies + one mother with enough milk for three. Apparently they are being kept outside at their current home and it is just way to cold for puppies right now.
The foster agency sent the question to me, and I forwarded it to Jon at work. He replied and and said it would be up to me - it would be a lot of work, and it would mainly be mine because he is at work all day. He said he loves puppies, but it will be hard to have so many of them.
I said I would think about it for a couple of hours.
When he came home from work, he picked up the BB and Brownie and said "Oh, I wonder if the other puppies who have been with the mother are going to be bigger or smaller than these ones"? I said "Well, you talk as though I have already decided to take them!" He just looked at me and said "Come on. I know you are going to take them"
And of course he is right.
2 will become 7. I will keep you posted.

Perfect Saturday
Woke up twice during the night to feed the puppies. They are two week old lab/shepard mixes, but their mom could only feed three of them. So the rest are bottle fed. This involves making formula, burping them and being peed on. Changed my shirt four times today after a sneak attack. I guess this is what having a baby around is like, only we have more than just one!
The weather was beautiful, sunny and a clear blue sky. A neighbor girl called and asked if I wanted to go for a long trail ride - and boy, did I ever. We spent three hours out in the forest, had some really good lopes and spent some time with a whole family of bold eagles.
Got back, went for a walk with Jon and hung out with the puppies.
Now: Some nice red wine, watching Downton Abbey w Jon, having a grandma Elsa style omelette w fresh eggs from the neighbor.
A perfect Saturday? I don't see how it could be any better.

Embracing the West
I have gotten to know one of the women who live in the village who has horses, and she is just the most fun. Yesterday, we watched Downunder horsmanship and together we are hopefully going to train a horse! But we both agree i need to get some outfits so that I melt in better around here. Number 1 on the list - Fat Babies Cowboy boots!
Clever girl
Went out to get Gracie from the runner. Gone. She had managed to open this metal clip. HOW? She lacks opposable thumbs! This is not the first time she has run away, and she always comes back, so I am not worried. She just likes to see the world. I am just curius as to how she did it... Jon wants to put a GPScollar on her, not so that we can go get her - we wouldnt be able to catch her anyways - but he is so curious as to where she goes!

Egypt+Kanye
Now, his ego did not need these.
But in the midst of all the cunfusion and happiness mixed with worrying about what will happen to the country, something like this can just make you cry.
The one thing I kept thinking about while watching it was "Wow. So this revolution has an awesome soundtrack, and someone who could edit together a nice video, making the struggle seem cool and hip". Is this what we can expect from our generation?

Foster dog
We are foster parents for dogs who need to get out of the shelter. Until they find someone who can adopt them, we take care of them and make sure they are ok. Really young and really old dogs are particularly vunerable so we try to get them out of the shelter as soon as possible.
This is our current dog - her name is Gracie and she is around six months. I have never met a more scared dog in my life, but she is not hostile, but the sweetest thing. Jon said it was like she had never heard a nice word in her life, and that pretty much sums it up. She is starting to come out of her shell now, and it is a joy to see.
So, if you know someone who is looking for a companion dog, let us know... She is going to be the best dog if someone gives her a chance. Super smart, and as I said, so gentle and kind.

LOVING Montana
So, I know I said it would be hard to get people to talk about the wolf. Turns out, it wasn't. Also, people were more than willing to chat to me about everything from Sarah Palin to horseback riding via religion and gay marriage, without getting angry or being crazy or anything. Yey Montana!

Made it to gardiner mt
BLIZZARD! Took me three hors to drive instead of one and a half.
Saw a bunch of elk and moose and deer!
Linnea at 6 AM on the bus: Hm, someone smells like HORSES here! *shakes head* How inconsiderate of the people who are allergic!
Linnea at 12.25 PM on the plane: Oh what? Here is that smell again! *looks down* Ohh....
Grabbed the wrong sweater in the morning and went for the one I used in the stable yesterday, instead of the clean one I had picked out and put on the chair. Great work, once again.
And for those of you who think journalism is glamorous: My work tonight will consist of me walking up to random people in Gardiner during a blizzard, asking them if they are here to look at wolves or what they think of them. My guess is half of them will say no, and the other half will think I am crazy and just leave.

Packing for Yellowstone, Prepping for brewing
Leaving for Yellowstone at six in the morning, so I am trying to pack everything I could possibly need for my four day wolf-watching adventure. The temperatures there are around 0-15 F (around -10/-20C) so I gotta dig out my winter gloves. You will get to see some good pics in the following week, I hope.
When I get back, I will be editing stuff for Swedish Public Radio - and start up my microbrewing! That's right, I am going to try to make my own beer... Ordered a Mr Beer kit from Amazon, mainly 'cause I like the name.
